Jean de Brie Cheese ReviewSubmitted by Jon on Sat, 07/04/2009 - 10:17 |
This isn't actually a real brie, but rather a bloomy rind triple cream cheese.
Much more full flavored than St Andre. Not as sweet and buttery, but just as creamy and spreadable. A slight "footy" character. My sample here had a slight (and not unpleasant) bitter undertone. Since this comes from France I'm always a bit dubious about whether the flavor I'm getting is authentic. I'll guess we'll have to wait for our trip to France to try that out.
Since it comes in small wheels it's easy to buy a whole one. I like that.
At any rate........ I would probably skip this in the future and either go with a regular brie or something sweeter like St Andre. The cheese was very good, but it just fell into that odd. middle ground. But if you're looking for some good cheese you've never tied before, this might be a good fit.
I thought this was wonderful spread on crackers along with a dry lager.
