Jarlsberger Cheese ReviewSubmitted by Jon on Sat, 07/04/2009 - 10:15 |
All of the scripts for the Monty Python skit have this cheese listed as "Jarlsberger", even though it's obviously Jarlsberg. This presented a quandary when I launched this website - How literal was I going to be about the names of the cheeses? Since "Jarlsberger" isn't really a cheese, was I going to skip over it and lump it in with the beaver cheese as something I'd need a quest to find? So maybe I'd have to search the world for a producer who had spelled it wrong by mistake?
In the end I decided the literal approach would be bad. For one thing, perhaps I don't want to eat cheese by a producer who would be prone to such an obvious spelling error. Also, that strategy would prevent me from trying the sage derby, and I really want to try that.
For those wondering, this just tastes like Swiss cheese. In fact it is Swiss cheese, it's just made in Norway. Nothing special.
And for the Swiss and Norwegians I've just made apoplectic - Howdy.
