Appleby's Cheshire Cheese Review

Since Cheshire cheese has been around for over 1000 years now it's one of those cool British cheeses I really wanted to try. And I really like the whole wrapped in linen thing.

This was a chance find at Whole Foods. I was just wasting some time before going back to work and there it was. Appleby's Cheshire. Which is cool since it saves me a bunch of money on shipping. And it also makes me wonder what the deal is with the local cheese shops. Neither of them have had any Cheshire, and I suspect Whole Foods has a higher turn over rate.

Anyway......... I was rather surprised by how mild this sample was. Online resources had led me to believe this was a more salty cheese, but I didn't find that to be true. I was also expecting it to be rather sharp, but it wasn't. Perhaps we got a young version. But it was really good. Mild attack but a wonderfully buttery finish. Slightly sweet. Slight straw taste. Crumbly but not hard at all.

The cat wouldn't touch it. Too mild I assume.
